Today, the Indian Premier League announced the date for the player auction for IPL 2021. “This year the auction for IPL player will take place on February 18 in Chennai,” the organisation said. The officials mentioned that the Indian players who do not have a contract and wish to be a part of the auction will be required to filled the player auction agreement. They have been asked to submit the agreement by February 4 at 5 pm.
The player auction is said to take place on February 18. The authorities have asked to send the original agreements by February 13. Last week, the eight franchises including Mumbai Indians, Chennai Super Kings, Kolkata Knight Riders, Sunrisers Hyderabad, Delhi Capitals, Rajasthan Royals, Kings XI Punjab, and Royal Challengers Bangalore announced their list of players they have retained and released ahead of the season. This year, it will be a mini-auction while there will be a mega-auction in IPL 2022 in which nine or 10 teams might feature in the tournament that is slated to get bigger and better. However, following the end of the IPL 2021 auction, players can still be traded to other franchises till February 20.
The previous tournament was conducted in the UAE in September, October, and November. However, the date and venue of the IPL 2021 have not yet been announced by the BCCI. Reportedly, Kings XI, Punjab has the biggest purse going into the IPL 2021 auction while Delhi Capitals have the lowest.
The players along with the host broadcasters had followed all the safety protocols laid down by the government. The opening match of the IPL between Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings broke viewership records as 20 crore people tuned in to watch the match.
