5 terrorists were neutralized by a joint security force on Wednesday. The team which faced the terrorists consisted of Indian army personnel and local police at south Kashmir’s Kulgam district. The encounter occurred in the Pombay and Gopalpora areas of the Kulgam district in Jammu and Kashmir.

It was informed by the Kashmir police that a terrorist commander named Afaq Sikander of the TRF has been gunned down in the Gopalpora area. The police also gave information on the two more unidentified terrorists who have been brought down by the forces in the Pombay area of the Kulgam district.

Security forces initiated a search operation in the two areas of Kulgam earlier in the day after receiving information on the presence of terrorists in the area. An official who is aware of all the ongoing development informed that the gunfight between the terrorists and security forces started earlier in the day. The search operation turned into impromptu encounters when the militants fired on the security forces, and thus, the security forces had to fire in retaliation.

On the other foreground, three terrorists of the Jaish-e-Mohammad terrorist group were arrested by the Jammu and Kashmir police with a cash amount of Rs. 42 lakhs. An operation on inputs from SSP Chandan Kohli led to the arrest of the militants who were detained from an Innova car that was heading to the valley somewhere from North India.
