Today, Charanjit Singh Channi, chief minister of Punjab, stated that the name of the DGP will be decided after discussing it with Navjot Singh Sidhu, along with all the ministers and MLAs. Channi stated that the DGP will be selected according to the laws, and the Punjab government has sent the panel of all senior police officers with 30 years of experience to the Centre, and a final decision has not yet been made.
Iqbal Preet Singh Sahota’s appointment as the DGP is a flashpoint between Channi and Sidhu as Sidhu expressed his objection to the DGP appointment while he stepped down. Channi stated that he was not rigid regarding the appointments, and while inviting Sidhu for a discussion, he said that he can give his feedback which will be considered by the party. Sidhu was satisfied after the meeting, and he decided to continue in his post of the Punjab Congress chief.
Sidhu posted a tweet on Sunday and said that in 2017, the demand for justice in Sacrilege cases and the demand for the arrest of main culprits behind the drug trade brought their Govt and people dismissed the last CM due to his failure. He added that AG / DG appointments now rub salt on the victims’ wounds, and they must be replaced otherwise the party will have no face.
On Sunday, Channi assured that he will make sure there is transparency in his administration and mentioned that the government is working with dedication, sincerity, and honesty. He added that the party chief is looking over the organizational work and the coordination committee will act as a platform between the government and the party.
Furthermore, Channi said that any employee who has over the age of 58 years would not be allowed to serve anymore in order to give youth more chances for government jobs.
