Ahead of the nationwide vaccination drive on 16th January, the first batch of Bharat Biotech’s Covid vaccine ‘Covaxin’ left Hyderabad early morning for Delhi and 10 other cities. On Tuesday, Dr VK Paul, Health Member of NITI Aayog, said both Covid vaccines, Covishield and Covaxin received Emergency Use Authorisation (EAU) as the vaccines have been tested on thousands of people with negligible side-effects and added that the two “are safest of the vaccines and there is no risk of any significance.”
For vaccine roll-out, there is a close collaboration going on among the Central government and the States/UTs, as Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan said, “All preparations are on track for vaccine roll-out from 16th January.”
Earlier, PM Modi said that in the first phase of vaccination, nearly 3 crore healthcare workers and front-line workers will be vaccinated and in the second phase, “those above 50 years and those under 50 years with co-morbid conditions will be vaccinated.”
