On Monday, Bharti Airtel and Tata group announced a strategic partnership between the two for the implementation of 5G network solutions in India.

Tata group has integrated an indigenous telecom stack by developing a ‘state-of-the-art’ O-RAN (Open Radio Access Network) based Radio and NSA/SA Core. This leverages the group capabilities and also of its partners that will be available for commercial development starting from January 2022.

According to the partnership strategy, Airtel will pilot this indigenous solution during its 5G rollout and as per the GOI guidelines, the pilot will commence in January 2022.

Gopal Vittal, MD, and CEO (India and South Asia) at Bharti Airtel said that this strategic partnership will provide a massive boost to India in becoming an innovation and manufacturing destination. Soon after the 5G solution is commercially proven, Airtel will be opening diverse and brownfield network export opportunities for India.

The telecom company Airtel is a board member of the O-RAN Alliance and is committed to explore and implement O-RAN-based networks in India. Earlier, it also became the first telecom company in India to validate 5G over its LIVE network in Hyderabad. Airtel has also started 5G trials in major cities using spectrum allocated by the Department of Telecom.
