Today, in a surprise move, the Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav and Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) leader Jayant Chaudhary shared photos of their meeting on Twitter. As a consequence, the public has been left with speculations that both the parties are set to form an alliance ahead of the Uttar Pradesh assembly polls next year.
On Twitter, both Akhilesh Yadav and Jayant Chaudhary shared pictures with captions that hinted towards a deal that might have closed between the regional parties as they look to challenge the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in UP. In Hindi, Akhilesh wrote, ‘Heading towards change with Jayant Chaudhary’.
Earlier, Jayant had mentioned that the SP has a credible base in UP and that they are working on creating a strong alternative to the BJP. “Within the opposition, Samajwadi Party has a credible base across the state. We are in conversation with them,” he added.
Since 2017, both SP and RLD have contested assembly elections and Lok Sabha bypolls together.
