Akshay Kumar’s awaited film Sooryavanshi is all set to release on Diwali this year. Directed by Rohit Shetty, Sooryavanshi will feature Akshay alongside Ranveer Singh, Ajay Devgn, Katrina Kaif, and Gulshan Grover.
Shetty’s Sooryavanshi will face a box-office clash with Marvel’s Eternals. Eternals was announced earlier this month by Disney. The superhero movie will be released worldwide in theatres on November 5. Eternals will star actors like Salma Hayek, Angelina Jolie, and Richard Madden. Diwali falls on November 4 this year.
Akshay Kumar complied with the Maharashtra government’s decision to reopen cinema halls in the state from October 22 and announced the release date for his film. Sharing a picture from the sets of the film and wrote, “So many families would be thanking Shri Uddhav Thackeray today!” Grateful for allowing the reopening of cinema halls in Maharashtra from Oct 22. The director of the film Rohit Shetty also shared a picture with Maharashtra CM and wrote on social media, “Thanks to our Honourable Chief Minister, Shri Uddhav Thackeray, theatres in Maharashtra to reopen from 22nd October. And FINALLY!!! we can say, This DIWALI…AA RAHI HAI POLICE.”
The film Sooryavanshi was initially slated to release in March 2020 release, However had to be postponed following the pandemic outbreak early last year. A Diwali 2020 release was also planned but could not be executed. Finally, when the makers of the film decide to release it on April 30, 2021, even then it was not materialized because of the various covid-19 induced restrictions.
After a lot of scrutiny and requests of distributors and exhibitors, Maharashtra Government finally decided to reopen cinemas. The state forms a major portion of the box-office collection for Hindi films in the country. A meeting was held between the major league film industry delegates including Shetty and Thackeray’s government to discuss the reopening of cinema halls across Maharashtra.
