Tomorrow, Union Home Minister Amit Shah is scheduled to inaugurate the 17th Formation Day of the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) in New Delhi. This is year’s theme for Formation Day stands to be the cascading effects of the events of disaster in the Himalayan region.
The participants in the program will include the Ministers of State for Home Affairs Nityanand Rai, Ajay Kumar Mishra and Nisith Pramanik followed by the Union Home Secretary. Dr. P.K. Mishrawill, Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister, will be delivering the concluding speech for the event.
According to sources, “NDMA Members and officials, senior officials from the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), National Institute of Disaster Management (NIDM), Ministries/Departments of the Central Government, State Governments, State Disaster Management Authorities (SDMAs), Fire and Forest Departments of various states, persons from civil society, and ex-Members and Advisory Committee members of the NDMA will participate in the event.”
The event would also mark the declaration of various scheme-related documents such as the release of training manual and scheme documents for AapdaMitra, simplified guidelines for earthquake resistant built environment, guidelines on cold wave and the release of scheme document of Common Alerting Protocol (CAP).
The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), which is headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, stands to be the main body for the management of disasters in India. The organization is directed at laying down programs and policies for disaster management in India.
