Indian Filmmaker, Yash Chopra, has been one of the most prominent figures who have changed the Hindi film industry forever. He is known for many films like Chandni, Lamhe, Dil Toh Pagal Hai, Veer-Zaara, Jab Tak Hai Jaan, among others. Being in the hearts of many, here is a story to remember him by on his 89th birth anniversary.
During an event in 2016, Amitabh Bachchan said that in the 1990s, ABCL, the corporation he began experienced huge financial failure and soon went bankrupt causing him to be caught under enormous debt. Bachchan thought about what he can do, and he realized that since he was an actor, he should go back to acting. Amitabh added that he approached Yash Chopra, and told that he was without any job, so he needed it.
Abhishek Bachchan also talked about that period in an interview and said that in order to be with his family, he had to drop out of college in Boston. Abhishek stated that he doesn’t think he was qualified to help him in any way, but he felt that as a son, he should be around his father, and help him in any possible way.
Abhishek recalled an incident and said that Amitabh called him to his study one day late at night, and told him that nothing is working out, his movies weren’t working out, his business wasn’t working out. Amitabh decided to revive his career as an actor, so he went to Yash Chopra’s house the next day, and told him, “Look, I don’t have a job, nobody is giving me work anymore, my movies aren’t working, and I’ve come to ask you to please give me a film to work in.”
The actor was then cast in a film by Yash Chopra’s son, Aditya Chopra, known as Mohabbatein, and he soon began to host the game show Kaun Banega Crorepati.
