On Friday, during a major terrorist attack in Manipur, a commanding officer from an Assam Rifles Unit, his family members and other soldiers were shot dead in Singhat subdivision of Manipur’s Churachandpur district. N Biren Singh, chief minister of Manipur confirmed to a news agency that the commandant and others have been gunned down in the ambush.

Colonel Viplav Tripathi’s wife and son were there in the convoy, as per reports. The attack occurred around 10 am. The Manipur-based People Liberation Army is alleged to be behind the attack, however, no terrorist militant organization has asserted responsibility for the attack as yet.

Taking to Twitter, the chief minister wrote, “Strongly condemn the cowardly attack on the convoy of 46 AR which has reportedly killed the personnel including CO & his family at CCpur today. The State forces and Paramilitary are already on their job to track down the militants. The perpetrators will be brought to justice.”
