On Sunday, the Broadcast Audience Research Council (BARC) of India issued a statement expressing its utter dismay with the Republic News Network, and charged the channel with allegations of “disclosing their private & confidential communication” and “misrepresenting the same”.
The Council resorted to Twitter and made their official statement public in which it reiterated that it has not commented on the ongoing investigation and without prejudice to BARC India’s rights.
The statement further read, “BARC India reiterates that it has not commented on the ongoing investigation and without prejudice to BARC India’s rights, it expresses its dismay at the actions of the Republic Network.”
The official expression comes amid the ongoing fuss over News channels being involved in Television Rating Point (TRP) fraud. Earlier in October, Mumbai Police Commissioner Param Bir Singh disclosed that the police team has linked three Indian channels – Republic TV, Fakt Marathi, and Box Cinema, which are involved in the TRP scam.
In the meantime, the Mumbai Police Department is likely to set out an interrogation in the name of the Republic TV’s Managing director and Editor-in-Chief Arnab Goswami.
