New Delhi: The Central Counterterrorism Law enforcement Agency, NIA (National Investigation Agency) stated that they have arrested the associate professor of English of DU, Hany Babu Musaliyarveettil Tharayil in accordance with the Bhima Koregaon Elgar Parishad Case. He is reportedly a resident of Gautam Buddha Nagar in UP. NIA took up the investigation of the case on January 24 this year and arrested the co-conspirators accused Anand Teltumbde and Gautam Navlakh.
The case arose out of Visham Baug, regarding inciting people and giving proactive speeches during Elgar Parishad which was organized by the activists of Kabir Kala Manch at Shaniwarwada, Pune. It promoted the enmity between various caste groups and led to violence killing many people and loss of property. It resulted in a state-wide agitation in Maharashtra. On September 11, 2019, the Pune Police searched his house and filed a charge sheet on November 15, 2018, and a supplementary charge sheet on February 2, 2019, for the respective case.
During the investigation, it was revealed that the senior leaders of CPI which were previously banned under the Unlawful activities act, were in contact with the organizers of Elgar Parishad as well as the accused arrested in the case who spread the ideology of Naxalism and encouraged unlawful acts. During the further inquiry, it was revealed that Hany Babu was propagating Naxal activities and Maoist ideology and was a conspirator with others arrested. All of the accused will be produced before NIA Special court at Mumbai tomorrow and the police custody will be sought for custodial for further interrogation and inquiry.
