German luxury automotive group BMW is all prepared to launch the all-electric Sedan i4 in India in May 2022. In addition, the company is also planning to introduce 19 cars and five motorcycles in the country by this ongoing year. The price of the electric Sedan i4 is kept at Rs 80 Lakhs onwards.
The BMW Sedan receives two electric powertrain options. The standard eDrive 40 variant features a single electric motor (340PS/ 430 Nm) that drives the rear wheels only, while the top-of-the-line M50 trim gets a dual electric motor (544 PS/ 795 Nm), putting down power on wheels.
Furthermore, the fast-charging capacity of 200 kW allows the Sedan battery to be juiced up from 0 to 80 percent in almost half an hour. The 11-kW home wall box charger will take almost 8.5 hours for a full charge. It is also packed with a 14.9-inch touchscreen system that gets BMW’s latest iDrive 8 infotainment software together with a 12.3-inch digital driver’s display, multi-zone climate control and wireless charging. The electric Sedan is likely to compete with Tesla Model 3.
According to reports, during the January-March 2022 period, the company has registered one of its best sales performances, with 25.3 percent sales growth in four-wheeler sales with nearly 2,815 units sold. The carmaker’s range of Sedans and SUVs recorded 2,636 units during Q1 2022, while Mini luxury compact cars sold 179 units. BMW Motorrad also lodged 41.1 % growth at 1518 units during the period.
BMW Group India President Vikram Pawah remarked that the supply is currently a little restricted. “We could have sold much, much more because we are holding roughly around 2500 orders for four-wheelers and more than 1500 orders for motorcycles,” he added.
