“Aashram” is the next step of Bobby Deol in the OTT platform. After a long time, the 51-years-old actor is very much excited about his new thriller web series and also fans are excited. “Aashram” is about a ‘Dhongi Babaji’ (fake priest) who is running an NGO with illegal activities. It is a portray of the “not so good” picture of people who are mishandling religion for their own sake.
Jha’s production has always examined with social and economic issues faced by small-town people like Mrityadand, Apaharan, and Gangajaal. Jha believes in telling stories with issues through which the main problem is correctly conveyed to the audience. Although, the audience is giving a mixed review as the series is lacking in creating a complete premise of the incident. The plot is not as horrific and surprising as it should have been.
Fans who love to binge high graded socio-political films will definitely respond to the plot of Aashram but people who till now do not consider movies like Gangajal and Rajneeti as modern classics will repel from it. They will be dissatisfied with the lacking plot of subtlety. However, the boring and monotonous lives of people will certainly get an entertaining outlook with this Deol’s series and will be a one-time watched cinema for sure.
The story started with a young girl brutally hitting her hostel warden to flee, this creates doubts in the mind of viewers as the scene leaves a question mark with the thirst for freedom. The flashback ends and fans are introduced to a wrestling match between two girls, one belonging from high-class society and the other from the Dalit section. Then comes Babaji (Bobby Deol) who is not a ‘godman’ but a ‘conman’. Bobby Deol’s portrays a calm and composed guru who has a huge set of devoted disciples.
A good movie not only comes with just a main character but the credit also goes to the other casts like Pankaj Tripathi who did his excellent job with his role and Aditi Pohankar also give her best with her small-town girl’s role. Darshan Kumar and Tushar Pandey also did justice with their roles. Director hopes that the concept of the series will be liked by the audience. It is an intense undercurrent of immorality, which is released on MX Player on 28th August.
