Rani Mukherji and Saif Ali Khan starrer Bunty Aur Babli 2 has collected a revenue of ₹8.30 crore through the weekend. The crime-comedy film has garnered ₹3.20 crore on Sunday. The film has collected less revenue than the original film which was released in 2005.
Debutant director Varun V Sharma’s Bunty Aur Babli 2 had released in theatres on 19 November. The film along with Rani and Saif also stars Sharwari Wagh, Siddhant Chaturvedi, and Pankaj Tripathi. Sharwari and Siddhant play the new con couple who have stolen the brand name of Bunty and Babli and the original Bunty and Babli(Vimmi and Rakesh) chase them.
Film Trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted on Monday, “#BuntyAurBabli2 has a lacklustre opening weekend… No turnaround on Day 2 and minimal growth on Day 3 seals the fate… Will find it going tough on weekdays due to weak trending… Fri 2.60 cr, Sat 2.50 cr, Sun 3.20 cr. Total: ₹8.30 cr. #India biz.”
According to a report the film was released at the time of a holiday in North India, Guru Nanak Jayanti. However, the film could not reap any benefits out of that holiday. The film has earned the most in the North region but the collection could have been much higher especially due to the first day holiday. It is reported that NCR is the only venue where films other than Sooryavanshi have been able to record better collections than Sooryavanshi’s third weekend, but even then the collections are very low.
The report summarised that the weekend collection of the film is less than its original Bunty Aur Babli(2005) which collected 8.75 crores on 475 screens.
