Four Navy officers along with 14 others have been booked by the CBI on the ground of allegedly generating fake bills of worth Rs. 6.76 crore. The bills were generated on the veil of supplying IT hardware to the Western Naval Command.
Captain Atul Kulkarni along with Commanders Mandar Godbole and RP Sharma and Petty Officer LOG (F&A) Kuldeep Singh Baghel has been booked by the CBI. The accused is said to have allegedly prepared seven fraudulent bills of Rs. 6.76 crore.
As per the CBI FIR, all the accused naval officers had abused their official position to defraud the naval authorities and rob the exchequer of public money which led to pecuniary gain to themselves.
In 2016, between January and March, the bills were allegedly raised at the Western Naval Command in Mumbai. It was raised for the supply of information technology and networking related hardware. None of the items mentioned in the bill were supplied to HQ, WNC (Western Naval Command). Neither any documents pertaining to the preparation of the bills like financial sanction, purchase order or receipt vouchers were available at HQ.
Four officials of the Controller of Defence Accounts besides private companies Star Network, ACME Networks, Cyberspace Infovision, and Moksh Infosys have been booked by the CBI.
