The Centre has facilitated an overall 1.29 billion COVID-19 vaccine doses through a free-of-cost channel and through direct state procurement category to state and union territories. Among these, over 216.5 million doses remain unutilized and are available with the states and union territories, according to the union health ministry.

The health ministry voiced that the Union government was committed to intensifying India’s vaccine coverage and stretching its scope to the far ends of the country. The ministry noted in a statement, “In the new phase of the universalization of the COVID-19 vaccination drive, the Union Government will procure and supply (free of cost) 75% of the vaccine manufacturers in the country to States and UTs.”

The COVID-19 vaccination drive has been accelerated with the help of the surging availability of vaccines, its advanced visibility to the states and UTs for enabling better planning by them and streamlining the vaccine supply chain. As a part of the nationwide vaccination drive, the government has been supporting the state and UTs by facilitating the COVID-19 vaccine, free of cost, the ministry emphasized.

Altogether 51,59,931 vaccine doses have been inoculated in the past 24 hours, pushing the country’s vaccination coverage beyond 115.79 crores, according to the ministry report till 7 am on Saturday. The country registered 10,302 fresh COVID-19 cases to stand at 3,44,99,925 in total, while the number of active cases dropped to 1,24,868 during the same period.

The active cases continue to remain below one percent of the caseload. In addition, the death toll jumped to 4,65,349 with nearly 267 deaths.
