On Tuesday, the Maharashtra government issued a set of guidelines for the operation of movie halls and theatres. Cinema halls and theatres in Maharashtra are scheduled to reopen on October 22, following months of shutting down in view of the second wave of COVID-19.

According to the latest SOPs issued by the government cinemas /theatres/multiplexes should open with a 50% capacity. Further, all guests at movie halls/ theatres will have to use the Aarogya Setu app to prove their safe status, or they can provide their last COVID-19 vaccination certificate.

In addition, all employees together with those working in the food court or cleaning services must be vaccinated with two doses of COVID-19, and 14 days shall pass since the second dose. Multiplexes should have staggered showtimes to reduce congestion. Digital no-contact payment methods should be used for ticket booking and payment for food and beverages.

Proper crowd control in parking lots, thermal screening for visitors should be executed coupled with proper COVID-19 behavior. Only asymptomatic visitors will be allowed inside the premises. Moreover, no food or beverages will be allowed within the screening room.
