Priyanka Churoria (Kolkata): A post on the Facebook by a B. Sc. student stating “If free ka khana had a face then Sikhs would fit in perfectly”,” as the Sikhs always serve langar in any riot area” landed Rudrani Banerjee in trouble as she was threatened of the abduction rape and acid attack by two men.
The men identified as Tanveed Hussain and Arshad Khan initially remarked her as a Modi bhakt for the post and used abusive languages against Rudrani and her parents. The situation worsened when Rudrani went to Jadavpur Police station to complain about the incident post which she was threatened of acid attack. This did not break down her courage and she went to the Cyber Police station at Lalbazaar to lodge an FIR as she was directed by Jadavpur Police station that the case comes under Cyber Crime.
Rudrani in her telephonic interview, she mentioned that she was initially denied of help from Lalbazaar as the Officer in Charge whose name she could not recall said her “that these are common incidents and not to worry,” however she forced for the complaint to be taken post which Tanveer Hussain and Arshad Khan were arrested immediately. The accused are out on bail now.
Prasun Maitra, advocate and a city-based NGO Aatmadeep stepped in to help Rudrani with all the legal remedies which she was not aware of. In an interview, Maitra stated that this issue has deep links with the ongoing situation of CAA and NRC in the country and that he will be helping Rudrani with all legal remedies. As of now, the men are out in bail but Rudrani is confident with her move and thankful to Prasun Maitra for helping her out in this situation as she traveled to Lalbazaar with her ailing mother for the legal formalities and also said that that there is no fault in expressing your views rather the men who threatened her are potential criminal against whom strict actions must be taken.
