On Wednesday, the chief minister of Uttar Pradesh, Yogi Adityanath tested positive for Covid-19 disease. He tweeted in Hindi, “On showing the initial symptoms, I got my Covid-19 test done and my report has come positive. I am in self-isolation and fully following the consultation of physicians. I am doing all the tasks virtually.”
After some of his office staffers tested positive for Covid-19, Adityanath isolated himself on Tuesday. Regarding this, he also tweeted, “Some staffers in my office have been infected with Corona. These officers have been in contact with me, so I have isolated myself as a precaution and am starting all the work virtually.” However, the CM did not identify the officials who tested positive.
Adityanath tested positive after he returned from his extensive campaign for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for the West Bengal assembly elections. His OSD Abhishek Kaushik and some other officials were also tested positive for the disease.
Already, due to the increased Covid-19 cases and for effective control of the pandemic, the UP government has imposed restrictions on gatherings of more than 5 people in religious places during Navratri and Ramadan.
According to a senior officer, on Tuesday, the state has reported the highest spike ever of 18,021 new Covid-19 cases with 85 deaths. The infection tally and death toll of the state stands at 7,23,582 and 9,309 respectively.
Due to the new wave, the state government has also imposed a night curfew in all districts with more than 500 active cases and also ordered the closure of schools and coaching from class 1 to 12 in UP till 30th April.
