On Tuesday, in Jammu & Kashmir, Congress party workers cum activists burnt an effigy of senior party leader Ghulam Nabi Azad and accused & raised slogans against him in a protest for conspiring against Congress by praising the BJP and PM Modi for “personal gains”.
The burning protest comes after the G-23 event in J&K, as Azad praised and lauded PM Modi where he said that he never tried to hide his background from the world and speaks frankly about his past as a tea-seller.
The Congress activists, mostly the youth, demanded Azad’s removal from the party. In August last year, a group of 23 leaders wrote to the party’s interim president Sonia Gandhi, urging her to ensure “full time” and “visible” leadership. Since then, it has come to be known as ‘G-23’.
In the afternoon, District Development Council (DDC) member and senior leader headed Congress activists appeared outside the Press Club and burnt the effigy of Azad amid high-pitch slogans against him and in support of party president Sonia Gandhi and her son Rahul Gandhi.
The protesters said they will fight against any force questioning the leadership of Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi. However, at the same time, the G-23 members also have not liked the statement of Ghulam Nabi Azad as a leader said that Azad should not have made these remarks as those can deflect attention from the aim of G-23 of strengthening the party.
The Gandhi Global Family organized an event in Jammu whose national chairman is Ghulam Nabi Azad where G-23 leaders were invited.
