On Sunday, inspector general NS Jamwal highlighted that the Border Security Force (BSF) is closely supervising the developments in the neighbouring countries, amid the Taliban strengthening its grip over Afghanistan, triggering fear that it might evolve as a safe haven for terrorists activities.
Jamwal stated, “BSF is keeping a constant vigilance at the border areas of Jammu and Kashmir. We have a firm belief in our capabilities and are ready to act towards any untoward activity if any.” While commenting about the heightening tensions at the border, the senior BSF official expressed, “The danger at the border areas was there, is there and we will continue to monitor the situation at the border areas.”
After the collapse of the Afghanistan government on August 15, the war-torn country has plunged into crisis. The situation in the neighbouring countries too has been deteriorating with a mass exodus of Afghans trying to escape from the Taliban and their violence. For years, the group has been termed as a terrorist organisation by the United States, as it is responsible for conducting major attacks in Afghanistan.
Last Thursday, the BRICS grouping asked for an inclusive intra-Afghan dialogue to ensure peace and stability in Afghanistan. Furthermore, the leaders also noted that Afghanistan’s territory should not become a sanctuary for the terror groups to mount attacks on other nations.
Following the virtual BRICS Summit, the Delhi Declaration was issued expressing concern over the development in Afghanistan and made a call for “refraining from violence and settling the situation by peaceful means”. Reportedly, the grouping emphasized the importance of fighting terror and upholding human rights, along with those of women and minorities.
