Today, the Delhi Customs officials have confiscated about 21 lakh pieces of peacock tail feathers at the Inland Container Depot which were allegedly being smuggled to China. The officials said that the total consignment weighed over 2,565 kilograms which were seized at ICD Tughlakabad, export shed intercepted a container carrying “peacock tail feathers”.
The consignment was concealed in corrugated boxes and declared as “plastic flexible pipes”. It was said that the total value of the smuggled feather is about Rs.5.25 crore.
The goods were seized on 16.03.2021 under Section 110 of the Customs Act, 1962 as the same is prohibited for export as per export policy and liable for confiscation under provisions of Customs Act, 1962, under provisions of Wildlife Protection Act, 1972. Officials also noted that further investigation is underway.
“The consignment was declared to have been carrying the PVC pipes,” an official said. They suspected that the smuggling was made due to medical reasons. The official further said that the total consignment was booked by a Delhi-based firm.
