  • A portal named ‘Dust Pollution Control Self-Assessment Portal’ was launched by the Environment Minister to boost up the dust control campaign

On Friday, a fine of Rs 5 lakh was issued on a construction company by the Delhi government for violating the dust control norms. The company named Larsen and Toubro (L and T) has been accused of neglecting the dust control guidelines set by the government while proceeding with construction near the Pragati Maidan.

Delhi’s Environment Minister Gopal Rai said, “During an inspection, we found lots of dust at a construction site of L and T. The tarpaulin net had only been put up for show either in parts or was completely torn apart. The anti-smog gun did not have water in it.” Rai further said that the administration has issued a notice to the company ordering it to adhere to the 14-point dust control norms within two days. Violation of the government notice will fetch the company a fine of Rs 5 lakhs per day, Gopal stated.

According to the Environment Minister, all government and private agencies will have to comply with the 14-point dust norms and the government will not tolerate any negligence in this case. A portal named ‘Dust Pollution Control Self-Assessment Portal’ was initiated by Gopal Rai, in order to thrive the anti-dust campaign. He has stated, “In the fight against pollution in Delhi, we are starting the anti-dust campaign from today till October 29. Last year also, we did this campaign but there are so many construction sites inside Delhi that it is difficult to monitor them all in the winter season manually.”

Rai has also informed about the fact that teams of the Pollution Control Committee (DPCC) were appointed by the government, to probe into the matter. Speaking about the newly launched portal, the Environment Minister said that the portal will take note of all kinds of ongoing construction works in the city.
