Today, 22-year-old climate activist Disha Ravi got bail from a Delhi court. She was arrested in connection with the toolkit leak case.
Disha had been accused by the Delhi Police for creating a Google document – online toolkit – supporting the ongoing farmers’ protest in India. Police also alleged her for being a part of a global conspiracy to generate and create violence in shaping the farmers’ protest against the three controversial farm laws.
On 13th February, Ravi was arrested and after spending five days in police custody and a three-day judicial remand, on Monday she was sent to one-day police custody.
Again yesterday, the police sought her custody saying that with other accused in the case – activists Shantanu Muluk and Nikita Jacob, they want to confront Ravi. Earlier on Tuesday, for the same reason, Ravi was brought to the Delhi Police Cyber Cell.
Both Jacob and Muluk were alleged for sedition, but they got transit bail from the Bombay High Court. A senior police officer said that on Monday, they were questioned at the Cyber Cell office of Delhi Police in Dwarka. The probe agency also stated that if required, in the future, they may arrest Jacob and Muluk as well.
On the other hand, Swedish climate activist Greta Thunberg extended her support to Ravi and tweeted, “Freedom of speech and the right to peaceful protest and assembly are non-negotiable human rights. These must be a fundamental part of any democracy” with the hashtag ‘StandWithDishaRavi’.
