On Monday, the Bollywood actor Sonu Sood has finally broken his silence by releasing a statement following the Income Tax raids. In his statement, Sood underlined that he has pledged himself to the service of the people of India with all his strength. “You don`t always have to tell your side of the story. Time will,” he added.
Addressing the IT controversy, Sood stated that every rupee in his foundation is awaiting to save a precious life. Referring to the funds, he clarified that he encouraged brands to donate to the humanitarian cause. During the pandemic, Sood had emerged as a saviour for everyone after he helped several migrant workers reach their hometowns.
“I have been busy attending to a few guests hence was unable to be at your service, for the last 4 days. Here I am back again in all humility. At your humble service, for life,” the statement concluded.
According to Income Tax Department, Sonu and his associates were involved in Rs. 20 crore tax evasion and violation of the Foreign Contribution Regulation Act (FCRA) while raising funds from abroad.
The CBDT claimed that the charity foundation set up by the actor has collected donations up to Rs. 18.94 crore from April 1, 2021, till date. Out of this, it said, the foundation has spent around Rs. 1.9 crore for various relief works and the balance of Rs. 17 crore has been found lying ‘unutilised’ in its bank account.
