On Tuesday, Amit Khare was appointed as the new advisor of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Khare has been the former secretary (HRD), information and broadcasting (I&B); he has also been an IAS officer of the 1985 batch. On September 30, Khare retired as the secretary of higher education.

An order stated, “The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved the appointment Shri Amit Khare, IAS (Retd.) (JH:1985) as Advisor to the Prime Minister in Prime Minister’s Office, in the rank and scale of Secretary to Government of India, on contract basis, as per other usual terms and conditions as are applicable in the case of re-employed officers of Secretary level in Government of India, initially for a period of two years or until further orders, whichever is earlier.”

The National Education Policy 2020 was steered by Khare earlier in 2020, as directed by the Prime Minister. The bureaucrat has also brought significant changes in the I and B ministry, on the regulations of digital media. He succeeded ex-cabinet secretary PK Sinha and ex-secretary Amarjeet Sinha to the office after they left their posts as advisors in the PMO this year. The ability to take firm decisions and maintain a transparent career stands to be the proficiencies of the 60-year-old.
