On Tuesday, the police said a gigantic fire broke out following a loud blast in a chemical factory in the Bharuch district of Gujarat. At least 20 workers are said to be injured in the tragic incident. Police inspector PH Vasava said, at around 2 am, the blaze erupted in the United Phosphorus Limited’s unit, engaged in manufacturing chemicals used in medicines, in Jhagadia industrial area.

Officials mentioned that the blast was so loud that people miles away from the spot heard it. Vasava said 20 workers are injured of which 8 are admitted to hospitals in Bharuch and Ankleshwar. 12 are said to be discharged after initial treatment. The official said around 15 fire tenders had rushed to the spot of the incident and the situation was brought under control by around 6:30 am. 

Vasava said rescuers are not being able to enter the unit due to excessive heat on-premises but are trying to get in. The reason behind the fire is yet to be ascertained.
