Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Friday held a virtual meeting with senior government officials to deliberate upon the infrastructural roadmap to be implemented.
Matters pertaining to Capital Expenditure (CAPEX) Plans of Ministries and their CPSEs, status of implementation of Budget announcements and measures to expedite infrastructure investment were discussed there.
Sitharaman emphasized the role of CAPEX in strengthening the post-pandemic economy and asked the ministers to achieve beyond their targets.
She emphasized that the budget for Financial Year 2021-22 had a capital outlay of Rs. 5.54 lakh crore, almost 34.5% over the Budget Estimate of 2020-21, but needs to be complemented by the Public Sector Enterprises.
To amplify infastructure expenditure, ministers were asked to work actively to get projects via structuring and financing from the central and state governments and support private entities to enhance their infrastructure spending.
They were also asked to explore Public Private Partnership (PPP) for viable projects and to ensure that Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises (MSME) dues were cleared at the earliest.
She asked the respected bodies to speed up the crucial projects that would ramp up data connectivity in various rural and hilly parts of the country including Aspirational Districts as well as the implementation of Vehicle Scrapping Facility.
She directed the Department of Atomic Energy to ensure that initiavtives announced under the Atma Nirbhar Bharat Package (ANBP) must be achieved soon.
The ministries were asked to constantly review the sector specific projects to ensure their timely implementation under the Central and the state governments.
