Today, the BJP MP and former Union Minister, Babul Supriyo have joined the Trinamool Congress (TMC). He joined the party in the presence of the national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee, and RS MP Derek O’Brien. The news has been confirmed by the TMC.

Last month, Supriyo had mentioned that he was quitting politics. However, he was persuaded against resigning as a Lok Sabha member even as he insisted that he would no longer be part of active politics.

The singer-turned-politician had quit the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) following the recent Union Cabinet reshuffle. Upset at being dropped from the Union Council of Ministers by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the two-term MP had earlier announced that he will resign as MP and quit politics.
