On Wednesday, France begins its first BioNTech- Pfizer vaccine production. Emmanuel Macron, the president of France took his social media and announced that France has a goal of 250 million doses of Covid-19 vaccines to be produced on its soil in 2021 and congratulates all the team for it.
The factory that started producing the Pfizer vaccine today is run by Delpharm, a French subcontractor of Pfizer-BioNTech. It will not make the active substance in the vaccine but is responsible for later stages of production. The factory in Eure and Loir by the end of 2021 will process “tens of millions of doses”.
The Moderna Covid vaccine will also be produced in France by the end of this month followed by the Johnson & Johnson and CureVac vaccines soon after. Overall, seven factories in France are expected to contribute to the production of 250 million vaccine doses by the end of the year.
