BJP registered wins in 1,967 urban constituencies and 735 district panchayat constituencies. Congress came second as it won 356 urban constituencies and 157 district panchayat seats in the recently concluded Gujarat civic polls.
PM Modi commended the pro-people administration of the Gujarat Government and the tremendous efforts of the Gujarat BJP workers and tweeted, “Urban, rural Gujarat has given a unanimous message. Our party will always work for the development of Gujarat and the empowerment of every Gujarati.” PM said that the party’s win affirms that Gujarat is with BJP’s agenda of development as the civic poll results were being declared.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah hailed the victory and said that the win is dedicated to the development and welfare of the poor, farmers, and villagers. He added that the BJP-led BJP government has won the trust of the people and are constantly committed to the welfare and development of the country’s poor, farmers and disadvantaged communities.
The polling took place with municipalities recording a voter turnout of 58.82%, while the figure was 66.60 percent for taluka panchayats and 65.80 for the district panchayats. The saffron party made a clear win in the 6 municipal corporation polls of Ahmedabad, Surat, Rajkot, Vadodara, Jamnagar, Bhavnagar. The State Election Commission said that the BJP had fielded 8,161 candidates, Congress 7,778, AAP 2,090, among others.
