An 18-year-old Hindu girl in Pakistan’s Sindh Province was killed during a failed abduction attempt, as per local media reports. The girl recognized as Pooja Oad was reported to have been shot to death in the middle of the street in Rohi, Sukkur after she put up resistance to the attackers.

Human rights activists claimed that hundreds of Christian and Hindu girls are forced to convert to Islam every year. According to reports, women from minority groups are regularly abducted and forcibly converted. The right group noted that the country’s minority groups have long faced the issue of forced marriages and conversions.

Several rights organizations have blamed the Pakistan government for not taking the required actions regarding the rising crimes against the Hindus and other minorities. Previously, the provincial government in Sindh has ruled out forced conversion and marriages.

Nevertheless, religious protestors contested the bill, arguing that girls only convert after falling in love with Muslim men. The entire population of the Hindu community in Pakistan stands at 1.60 percent, and 6.51 percent in Sindh, as per the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics.
