Hurricane Ida plowed into Louisiana from the Gulf of Mexico as a fierce Category 4 storm on Sunday. Power was knocked out Sunday night to the entire New Orleans metropolitan area, the utility company Entergy Louisiana reported.
Ida made landfall on the Louisiana coastline on Sunday as a Category 4 storm with reported wind speeds of 150 mp tying it with the fifth-strongest hurricane to ever hit the mainland.
The hurricane eventually weakened to a Category 2 storm on Sunday night and is forecast to be a tropical storm by Monday morning. The hurricane led to several tornado warnings in parts of western Louisiana, southern Mississippi, and Alabama.
