IMD Issues Dust Storm Or Thunderstorm Warning, Raises Yellow Alert In Delhi

On Wednesday, the Indian Meteorological Department issued a dust storm or thunderstorm warning with an estimated gust of winds up to 50 km/hr expectedly in Delhi. A yellow alert has also been issued. As per the department, there is also a possibility of very light rainfall in a few parts of the capital city.

The IMD noted that owing to the western disturbances affecting northwest India, a clouded sky is forecasted over Delhi for the following three days, while the temperature will be around 40°C for the next couple of days. The minimum temperature in the national capital is likely to be around 25-27°C on Wednesday. The department forecasted that heatwave conditions are not expected in the following two to three days.

Multiple places in the country have experienced an all-time high temperature in April with the mercury leaping to 46-47 degrees Celsius leading to a severe heatwave. With the high temperatures, the power demand has been on a rise, resulting in a power shortage. On Monday, the national capital witnessed a peak power demand of 6,194 MW. On the other hand, the peak power demand in the country reached an all-time high of 207,111 MW on April 29.
