On Wednesday, Union Cabinet was apprised of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the academic and research cooperation and exchange program signed between the National Atmospheric Research Laboratory and Research Institute (NARL) for Sustainable Humanosphere (RISH), Kyoto University of Japan.
This Memorandum will enable NARL and RISH to continue their cooperation in areas of atmospheric science and technology, collaborative scientific experiments, campaigns, and related modeling studies utilizing the research facilities of both. This MoU will also lead to mutual utilization of facilities by both such as the Middle and Upper atmosphere (MU) radar in Shigaraki, Japan, the Equatorial Atmosphere Radar (EAR) in Kototabang, the complementary instruments available from RISH in Indonesia, and the Mesosphere-Stratosphere-Troposphere (MST) radar instruments that are available at NARL.
Both have been collaborative in the area of atmospheric science and technology and also in the exchange of scientists. Through an MoU in 2008 this arrangement was finalized. It was renewed in 2013 and a fresh MoU to promote collaborative research, as per the new guidelines, was signed in November 2020 by both sides.
RISH conducted an international school on the atmospheric radar where the scientists of NARL worked as resource persons. To strengthen cooperative research being carried out by the two institutes, a team of Professors and Researchers of Kyoto University visited NARL and conducted a focused workshop.
