Today, in a press conference, the official spokesperson of the Ministry of External Affairs, Arindam Bagchi clearly stated that India has neither accepted the illegal occupation of Indian territory by China nor China’s unjustified claims. Bagchi’s statement comes after a report which claimed that China has constructed a village along the Line of Actual Control in the Arunachal Pradesh sector.

Addressing the media, Bagchi claimed that China has conducted multiple construction activities in the past several years along with the border areas, including in the areas that it has illegally occupied over decades. “India has neither accepted such illegal occupation of our territory nor has it accepted the unjustified Chinese claims,” he added.

Commenting on the issue, Bagchi highlighted that via diplomatic means, India has always conveyed strong protest to such activities. He mentioned that the Indian government has also increased the border infrastructure, including the construction of roads, bridges. “These infrastructures have provided much-needed connectivity to the local population along the border,” he added.

Bagchi emphasized snd reiterated that the government is ‘committed’ to its objective of creating infrastructure along with border areas for the improvement of livelihood, including in Arunachal Pradesh.

According to the report which received many criticisms from the public, and forced the MEA to release a statement claiming that Beijing has constructed a village along the Line of Actual Control in the Arunachal Pradesh sector. It further mentioned that the village was constructed in 2020 in a disputed area along the Tsari river. The disputed areas is between the PRC’s Tibet Autonomous Region and India’s Arunachal Pradesh state in the eastern sector of the LAC.
