In the last 24 hours, India witnessed a huge spike in fresh COVID-19 cases. Nearly, 89,129 fresh COVID-19 cases have been reported with 714 deaths. Comparing the figure with September 16, 2020, it is only 9,000 cases away. Reportedly, on September 16, 2020, India had reported 97,860 cases in a span of 24 hours.
According to the Health Ministry, 44,176 COVID patients, that is around half of the number of new cases, recuperated from the virus in the last 24 hours. The fresh number of cases pushes India’s total tally to 1.24 crore. However out of these, 1.15 crore people have been recovered from the infection while 1.64 lakh people have lost their lives.
On the other hand, the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), mentioned that up to April 2, 2021, nearly 24,69,59,192 samples have been tested for COVID-19. Out of these, a total of 10,46,605 samples were tested on Friday.
The above figure has triggered a second wave of COVID-19 cases in the country. Several states including Maharashtra have imposed a fresh set of protocols to control the spread of the virus. The government has also urged the people to follow the standard protocols which had been laid down previously including social distancing, wearing a face mask, and regularly washing hands.
