NEW DELHI: On Wednesday, it has been announced that the Indian Army Cheif General Manoj Mukund Naravane will be receiving the honorary rank of General of the Nepali Army. For the investiture ceremony, the General will be travelling to Nepal in the first week of November. The announcement comes ahead of the border tension between Nepal and India. The dispute had begun a few months back between the two nations.
In a press release, it was informed that Her Excellency Mrs Vidua Devi Bhandari will bestow the honorary rank of General of the Nepali Army to General Naravane in an investiture ceremony. Due to the ongoing global pandemic, the date which was scheduled on February 3, 2020, had been postponed. The officials did not confirm the date however, it has been decided to take place from November 3.
Meanwhile, the dispute between Nepal and India escalated in May when India had opened a new track. The Defence Minister, Rajnath Singh had inaugurated a track in the Lipulekh area, that Nepal had claimed as its territory. Nepal claimed that Kalapani, Lipulekh, and Limpiyadhurya belonged to its area as per the Treaty of Sugauli. The main goal of the visit is to get conferred the honorary rank of General of the Nepali Army.
