NANCY JAISWAL: UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson appointed an Indian namely- Rishi Sunak as his new finance minister, who replaced Sajid Javid after he resigned from the post of Chancellor. As a surprise decision, owing to the recent ministerial reshuffle by Johnson.
Sunak is married to the daughter of Infosys co-founder Narayana Murthy, Akshata Murthy. He is associated with the British Conservative Party and has also been a Member of Parliament for Richmond (Yorks) since October 2014.
Previously, Sunak was second in command to the finance minister as a Chief Secretary of Treasury and oversaw public spending.
He has also been a director in Narayana Murthy’s investment firm, Catamaran Ventures.
Sunak is considered as an emerging major in the Conservative Party, holding regular media interviews on behalf of the government and had even supported Johnson all the while in last year’s election campaign.
