On Monday, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare outlined that India recorded over 1.68 lakh fresh COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours. This pushed the tally of the total number of cases to 1,35,27,717. Commenting on the mortality rate, the figures for this category have also increased. In the last 24 hours, India witnessed nearly 904 deaths. Previously, more than 900 deaths were reported last in October 2020.

Amid the increasing rate of fresh COVID-19 cases, seems like the recovery rate of the nation is witnessing a downward curve. Earlier the recovery rate which stood at over 97 percent, is presently reduced to 90 percent. The Ministry mentioned that the number of recoveries on Monday stood at 1,21,56,529.

The surging cases of COVID-19 in India have triggered a matter of ‘grave concern’ among several political leaders. Nearly 16 States have portrayed an upward trajectory in daily new cases. In the last 10 days, 6 more states were added to the list. Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, Uttar Pradesh, Karnataka, Delhi, Tamil Nadu, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Haryana, Rajasthan, Punjab, Kerala, Telangana, Uttarakhand, Andhra Pradesh, and West Bengal are witnessing a rising trend in the number of new cases in a single day.

The positivity rate stood at 1.29 percent on the same date two months ago, increased to 8.29 percent on Monday. The surge comes at a time when the nation is facing a crisis of the COVID-19 vaccine. Several states including Maharashtra, Odisha, Punjab, and Rajasthan are almost drained out of the COVID-19 vaccine.

The active cases curve in the country surpassed the September peak and currently stands at more than 1.2 million. The positivity rate stood at 1.29 percent on the same date two months ago, increased to 8.29 percent on Monday. The surge in Covid-19 cases comes as the country continues to administer the highest number of vaccine doses per day. More than 10 crore vaccine doses have been administered so far, according to the health ministry.
