The 8th Edition of the joint military exercise between the Indian Army and the Sri Lanka Army, Exercise MITRA SHAKTI which was conducted from 04 October 2021, concluded at Combat Training School, Ampara on 16th October 2021.

Exercise Mitra Shakti, focused on counter-insurgency and counter-terrorism operations in semi-urban terrain is the largest bilateral exercise being organized by the Sri Lankan Army. The exercise establishes a major part of India and Sri Lanka’s growing defence partnership.

During the last 14 days, both the armies showed great enthusiasm and professionalism while practising joint drills, taking place as a part of the exercise. The culmination phase of the exercise witnessed the participation of visiting chief of the Indian Army, General M M Naravane and General Shavendra Silva, Chief of Defence Staff & Commander of Sri Lankan Army on 15 October 2021.

Apart from promoting synergy and interoperability among the Armed Forces, Exercise Mitra Shakti further assisted in building ties between both Nations. Following the exercise, the participating contingent expressed satisfaction at the termination of the exercise in terms of standards met during the conduct of the exercise.
