ISRO Successfully Completes Ground Testing Of Solid Booster Stage For SSLV: Report

On Tuesday, ISRO successfully conducted the ground testing of the newly developed Solid Booster Stage (SS1) for the new launch vehicle Small Satellite Launch Vehicle (SSLV) at Satish Dhawan Space Centre, Sriharikota. According to sources, all the propulsion parameters during the test were found satisfactory and were closely corresponding with the predictions.

The Solid Booster Stage (SS1) motor is a three-segmented solid propulsion stage incorporating several new technologies and innovative processes that involves bond-free joints between the segments, high power electromechanical actuator with digital control electronics, optimized ignitor, and simultaneous propellant casting of all segments, which have been successfully corroborated in the ground test.

ISRO reported that the successful test of SS1 has provided them with sufficient confidence to step ahead with the first developmental flight of SSLV (SSLV-D1) which is proposed to be carried out in May 2022. The remaining stages of SSLV (SS2 and SS3) have successfully undertaken necessary ground tests and are prepared for integration.
