On Tuesday, a collision between the security forces and terrorists in the Feeripora area of Shopian district in Jammu and Kashmir led to the killing of one terrorist. According to the Jammu and Kashmir Police, the operation is still underway. The police have tweeted, “#ShopianEncounterUpdate: 01 unidentified #terrorist killed. #Operation going on. Further details shall follow.”
On Monday, reports of four encounters arrived from Poonch, Anantnag, Bandipora and Shopian. The conflict which took place between the security personnel and armed militants in Poonch’s Surankote killed five soldiers which included a junior commissioned officer (JCO). In the Anantnag and Bandipora gun battles, two militants were killed while a policeman was injured.
The encounter in Shopian which took place on Monday killed three terrorists who were associated with The Resistance Front (TRF). The list of the deceased included the militant who was responsible for killing a street hawker, police said. Ahead of the encounters the Kashmir Zone Police tweeted, “#ShopianEncounterUpdate: Out of 03 killed #terrorists, one terrorist has been identified as Mukhtar Shah of #Ganderbal, who shifted to #Shopian after killing one street hawker Virendra Paswan of Bihar,” the tweet quoted IGP Vijay Kumar.
16 locations in Jammu and Kashmir were raided by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Tuesday. The raids came after the registration of new cases against TRF and overground workers (OGWs) belonging to the terror outfits Jaish-e-Mohammad, Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), which were backed by Pakistan.
