KERALA: On Wednesday, the Enforcement Directorate took into custody, the former Kerala office Secretary M Sivasankar in a case pertaining to the Gold Smuggling case. Notably, he was taken from the Ayurveda Hospital in Thiruvananthapuram, where he had been admitted for illness.
The EDs decision comes following the High Court’s call, which had earlier today rejected Sivasankar’s anticipatory bail plea. The ED officials had shown disapproval to the plea stating that the former Secretary had allegedly played a major role in the high profile smuggling case through diplomatic channels and his bail would cause delays in the probe.
The officials of the Directorate also highlighted that the alleged former secretary has been non-cooperative throughout the investigation and has been passing out contradicting statements from that of Key accused Swapna Suresh and his chartered accountant Venugopal, therefore bringing him in the doubtful position.
During the interrogation carried out by ED in concern with the case, Swapna had claimed that she was acknowledged to the Keralian Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and also claimed to be in close terms with the CMs secretary, Sivasankar who was suspended soon after the developments in the case.
The Kerala High Court had ruled out a restraining order to the ED officials from arresting accused Sivasankar till October 28th, who has been taken into custody by the ED office in Kochi, today. Reportedly, his arrest will be filed and registered by Wednesday evening.
