On Wednesday, Special Task Force (STF) of West Bengal killed two notorious wanted gangsters from Punjab in an encounter at the eastern outskirts of Kolkata.
Reportedly, among the two criminals, one was suspected as Jaipal Singh Bhullar who was involved in the murder of police personnel in Ludhiana while the other gangster identified as Jaspreet Jassi. They were found to be allegedly involved in smuggling of firearms and explosives.
The criminals were hidden in a rented apartment of a residential complex in the New Town area. During the open fire by criminals, a police officer was injured. In and around the complex, a police contingent was deployed.
Police suspected that associates of the gangsters might have slipped out during the encounter. All roads were also sealed and the West Bengal Police was in constant touch with their counterparts in Punjab.
Police officials said that the STF received information about the Punjab gangsters from two men who were arrested near Siuri in Birbhum district involved in a smuggling consignment of explosives and 9 mm pistols from Bihar.
Further, to investigate more details of the two, the STF personnel are examining footage captured by security cameras installed inside the complex.
