On Tuesday, in a tweet, Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi claimed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government had kept her in detention for the last 28 hours without any order or first information report (FIR).
Taking to Twitter, Gandhi questioned why the culprits responsible for the terrifying incident in Lakhimpur Kheri were not yet arrested. A video posted by her showed, the protesters being driven over by a car. On Sunday night, Priyanka had landed at Lucknow airport but was initially stopped at her residence as she tried to leave for Lakhimpur Kheri. A large team of police was deployed outside, and a brief discussion happened. She came out of the house and soon left for Lakhimpur Kheri.
However, due to some heated disagreements with the police personnel, the Congress leader and her party colleagues were taken into custody near Hargaon along the Sitapur-Lakhimpur border. The Congress general secretary was taken into custody on Monday morning along with party lawmaker Deependra Singh Hooda.
The unfortunate violence on Sunday claimed the lives of eight including a journalist and few other farmers. The violence broke out after at least one car, allegedly driven by Union minister of state Ajay Kumar Mishra Teni’s son Ashish Mishra, hit the protesting farmers.
