On Thursday, K Suresh, Congress MP, gave an adjournment motion on farmers’ issues in Lok Sabha. Suresh wrote to Lok Sabha Secretary General saying that the brutal suppression of rights of farmers of the country by means of enacting disempowering legislations has caused farmer unrest across the country for the last eight months and added that the rights of farmers to their land and produce are sacrosanct and needs to be protected.

Suresh further stated that the anti-farmer legislation by the government must be repealed and farmers will be heard. A protest at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar will be held by farmers today demanding the scrapping of three new agricultural laws.

Since November 26, 2020, farmers have been protesting at different borders of Delhi against the three newly enacted farm laws. The three laws include the Farmers’ Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Act, 2020; the Farmers Empowerment and Protection Agreement on Price Assurance and farm Services Act 2020 and the Essential Commodities (Amendment) Act, 2020.

To break the deadlock between the farmer leaders and the Centre several rounds of talks were conducted earlier.
