On Friday, PM Modi mourned the 2008 terror attacks in Mumbai saying that India fails to forget the wounds of the attacks. The Prime Minister said, “India can’t forget the wounds of the Mumbai attacks. Now, today’s India is combating terrorism with a new policy and new ways.” Modi’s statement comes at a time when the external affairs ministry is set to sit in talks with a senior Pakistani diplomat demanding punishment for those involved in the attacks.

Modi, appearing in a video that came from the Twitter handle of the external affairs ministry spokesperson, said, “I pay my homage to all those who died in the Mumbai attacks. Much brave police personnel was martyred in this attack. I also pay homage to them.”

A note which was delivered to the senior Pakistani diplomat from the ministry of external affairs reiterated, “India’s call for an expeditious trial in the Mumbai terror attack case.” The note further stated, “It is a matter of deep anguish that even after 13 years of this heinous terror attack, the families of 166 victims from 15 countries across the globe still await closure, with Pakistan showing little sincerity in bringing the perpetrators to justice.”

The note conveyed the Pakistani government to give up double standards and “expeditiously bring the perpetrators of the horrific attack to justice.” It also affirmed, “This is not just a matter of Pakistan’s accountability to the families of the innocent victims who fell to terrorists, but also an international obligation.” The note warned the neighboring country that the Indian government will continue to seek justice for the victims of the attack.

The video posted from the account of the spokesperson for the ministry of external affairs contained several footages of the rampage which took place in Mumbai’s Taj Mahal hotel. It also portrayed world leaders including UN secretary-general Ban Ki-moon condemning the attack. The various moves came o the 13th anniversary of the brutal terrorist attacks on Mumbai.
