Opposition parties in Pakistan joined hands against Pakistani Government with allegations that Covid-19 has damaged Pakistan more than it did to Wuhan. The main opposition of Imran Khan’s party is Rana Sanaullah’s Party. A total of 11 opposition parties joined hands in the city of Gujranwala to hold the first nationwide sanitization drive to wipe out Covid. The protest came at a time when the ruling Government is unable to cope with the pandemic with severe economic decline, unemployment and the worst inflation rates in Asia.

On Friday, the rally was attended by thousands of political workers and supporters across Pakistan, which is said to be the biggest shows of strength by opposition parties in recent years in Pakistan. The main attendee of the protest was former PM Nawaz Sharif’s daughter Maryam Nawaz Sharif. In the absence of her father she is the leading opposition voice.

Imran Khan also tried hard to muzzle opposition voices and prevent protests from happening. On Thursday, mass detentions and arrest of 500 known opposition figures and activists was embarked by the Government. Many fake arrests of political workers were also done, said Ahsan Iqbal, PML-N Secretary General. Further he said in his three decades of political experience he never witnessed brutality to this extent, said Iqbal. Raids are still continuing against the workers.

The opposition parties slammed the Military which rigged the elections back in 2018 which brought Imran Khan in power. ‘Imran Khan’s administration is a puppet for the agenda of the Military’, slammed opposition.

Today’s rally was Maulana Fazlur Rehman PDM party’s first rally, weeks before they embark a long march to parliament in January 2021 to demand the stepping down of Khan. In Today’s rally approximately 50,000 people had piled with no mask and social distancing being followed by either the people in the crowd or political leaders. Banners of former PM Benazir Bhutto and Nawaz Sharif were held.
